August 12th is World Elephant Day. This is a day that is recognized to bring awareness to people about the danger that elephants are truly in. The film When Elephants Were Young gives a depiction of what these elephants are truly going through.
“This film comes out of my passion for elephants and wanting to tell the story about the importance of protecting these incredible creatures" says Patricia Sims, director of When Elephants Were Young.
The elephant population has dropped 62% in 10 years due to poaching, leaving only 400,000 in existence. The film tells the story of a young man and his elephant in Bangkok, and contrasts an upbringing of captivity against the freedom these animals deserve.
"Our film tells a story of a young man and a young elephant who lived together in the city showing some of the sad realities and a possible happy ending."
