In 1987, the United Nations named June 26th as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The Partnership for Drug-Free Kids is continuing the fight against drug abuse.
Alan Schwarz (national correspondent, The New York Times) said “people that young think, 'well that came from a doctor, what's the big deal... it can't be dangerous.'” The partnership addresses prescription drug abuse by young students, which can lead to stronger addictive tendencies. Dr. Meredith Grossman (clinical psychologist) said, "it makes this easy transition into using other prescription drugs".
