Humans like to believe that they are a dog’s best friend but really a dog’s best friend is another dog.
When Phoebe, a basset hound, fell and got trapped in an old cistern her best friend Tillie, an Irish setter, didn’t leave her side for a week until help arrived.
Okay, maybe she did but only to go and get help.
According to the Vashon Island Pet Protectors, the two dogs have been missing for a week until a community member spotted the Irish setter “coming up to them when they were out on their property and then promptly heading back into a ravine.”
And that’s when volunteers from VIPP found the Tillie standing guard over her friend that was stuck with nowhere to go.
“Hope is an awfully hard thing to keep open and alive in the face of heartbreak, but it so important for happy endings for missing pets — or even for unhappy endings with closure,” Amy Carrey of VIPP told USA Today.
Is your heart warm yet?
Now, sing it with me: “we’re the two best friends that anyone could have. And we’ll never ever, ever, ever leave each other.”
