Uber, the popular ride sharing app, has teamed up with (RED) as part of their campaign to deliver an AIDS Free Generation.
On Tuesday, Dec. 1, Uber riders in more than 150 cities nationwide can join the fight by choosing to ride (RED) and donate $5 on top of their normal fare. Around the world, cars in the app will turn red to drive awareness around the cause. All donations made through the (red) option in the app go directly to the global fund, a 21st-century organization designed to accelerate the end of aids, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics.
In addition to your contribution, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is matching every donation made through the Uber app on December 1. Uber says that a donation of as little as $5 can provide a month's worth of lifesaving medicine to a mother living with HIV/AIDS.
December 1 marks World AIDS Day, a day of awareness and education about the HIV infection and AIDS. According to the World Health Organization, there are over 34 million people living with HIV, and the virus has killed just as many lives since 1981.
